Making your own roux is a satisfying experience. However, it is a satisfying and long experience since you must be extra careful not to burn the roux and must constantly stir the roux mixture. This is what makes Kary's Roux so fantastic. It offers the same type of flavor a homemade roux would provide in no time at all. So try Kary's Roux from Ville Platte, LA for your next gumbo, fricassee, or etouffee. Just remember all Cajun dishes start with a roux so make it Kary's Roux. A roux is a mixture of even parts of fat and flour. The traditional French roux uses butter while the Cajun roux uses oil. There are varying types of rouxs that are all determined by the amount of time you cook the roux. Here are a few examples of types of roux: light roux or blond roux, brown or peanut butter roux, and dark roux. One thing is certain with cooking rouxs and that is not to get any remnants of the roux on your skin. There is a reason cooks down in Louisiana call it the Cajun napalm.

I am very pleased with my order from Nola Cajun. You had the best price I could find. I have used these products before and was very happy with the finished product. I had a good friend teach me how to make gumbo. He was from Louisiana and was a very good cook. I thought it was too time consuming to make my own roux so I looked for an easier way. Kary's Roux is the answer I needed. Kary's is an excellent product and Nola Cajun delivered it to my door in a very timely manner. Thank you for your great prices. I will order from you in the future.
Love Roux, but a lot of work Review by Vicky Moog (Posted on 7/24/2014)

I love a good roux, but it sure is a lot of work. Kary's Roux is my "secret ingredient". You get all the flavor and none of the work. I won't give up my scratch roux, but in a pinch this roux comes in pretty handy and is pretty tasty.

The best Louisiana gumbo maker I know turned me on to this "Why bother making my own anymore, when Kary's is just as good out of the jar? " Only she was scooping it out of a 5 gallon plastic bucket, because she was cooking up 2 huge pots for the music-loving crowd. "Add twice the amount the label says", she added.

This is a great product. I no longer have to slave over a hot stove making a roux. This makes it easier to make a great dish for my family to eat.

One jar makes alot. I wasn't sure of the ratio of product to water/stock. I had to guess. When you open the jar the oil is on the top and the solids on the bottom. If only using 1/2 need to empty the jar and mix everything up. The gravy was a perfect color and texture. It was a delicious, complex roux. I made chicken, andouille sausage gumbo. I think you can do anything with that roux. My mother a native from New Orleans thought it was the best ever she said "This is an oldtime recipe" I am going to order more to keep around when needed.

I ordered the product because a friend recommended it. It worked well I didn't have to take the time to make my own. It was a quick and very good replacement for making your own. I ordered it and it was shipped the next day and I received it in three which was great.
