NolaCajun.com's Traditional King Cake is an oval-shaped cinnamon cake that feeds approximately 20 people. It is made from our fresh-daily gourmet Danish pastry dough which is iced and decorated with sugars in the Mardi Gras Carnival colors of purple (for justice), green (for faith), and gold (for power). A tiny, plastic baby representing the infant Jesus is inserted into the cake. Tradition holds that the person who gets the piece with the baby in it is obligated to bring a king cake to the next party.

I received the Traditional King as a gift for two years in a row. I will start buying it for my self. The pastry is moist and tasty. I love the cinnamon the best. It is the perfect companion for a cup of coffee or big glass of milk. We eat it for breakfast or snack. Served it to company and literally had to hide some of the cake so I could save some for myself later. LOL!!!

I sent one King Cake to Savannah, GA and another to Newbury Park, CA. Both coasts loved their King Cake. NolaCajun made it so easy to click and send. I would recommend any displaced South Louisiana people order their King Cakes from NolaCajun next year!

The cake is wonderful and tasted great with my coffee this morning. The only downfall with ordering this online & waiting on delivery is that is was delivered a day late due to the extreme weather we had here in the DC area on Monday, 3 Mar 14.

One thing to note: the baby was not cooked/hidden inside the cake, but place on the side of it which made it pretty obvious.

As part of Christian faith, the coming of the wise men bearing gifts to the Christ Child is celebrated twelve days after Christmas. We refer to this as the Feast of the Epiphany or Little Christmas on the Twelfth Night. This is a time of celebration, exchanging gifts and feasting. Today, the tradition continues as people all over the world gather for festive Twelfth Night celebrations. A popular custom was and still is the baking of a special cake in honor of the three kings called "A King's Cake." January 6, the Twelfth Night after Christmas, is also the day Mardi Gras season begins. Mardi Gras Day is always 41 days prior to Easter Sunday (Fat Tuesday is always the day before Ash Wednesday). In 1870, the Twelfth Night Revelers held their Mardi Gras ball with a large king cake as the main attraction. Instead of choosing a sacred king to be sacrificed, the Twelfth Night Revelers used the bean in the cake to choose the queen of the ball. This tradition has carried on to this day, although the Twelfth Night Revelers now use a wooden replica of a large king cake. The ladies of the court pull open little drawers in the cake's lower layer which contain the silver and gold beans. Silver means you're on the court; gold is for the queen.

NolaCajun King Cakes are shipped via Express 2-day and Overnight shipping. Our king cakes are baked the day of shipment and will remain fresh for up to a week kept closed in their box. We do our best to ensure your king cake arrives to you in perfect condition, but because of conditions outside of our control, there have been times a king cake arrives in less than perfect condition (i.e. the cake is split in places, filling has oozed out in spots, icing is smeared). These imperfections do not affect the taste and quality of the king cake, therefore we DO NOT offer refunds in these instances. Our suggestion is to slice the cake into small pieces and place on a platter for the best presentation.
